The Ten(der) Commandments - The Sixth Commandment

July 23, 2023 | Dave McGinley
Passage: Matthew 19:1-9

SERMON NOTES Sixth Commandment – You shall not commit adultery.

“To have and hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, tell death us do part, according to God’s holy will; and I pledge to you my faithfulness.”

And Pharisees came up to him (Jesus) and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?” Matthew 19:3

He (Jesus) answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?” Matthew 19:4-5

Marriage is a union more than feelings.

God completes us.

“…So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:6

God honors and protects marriage.

“You cannot keep birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.” – Martin Luther

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Honor and protect others.

“We live by grace from beginning to end.”

See through the lens of God’s faithfulness.
