First Commandment

Having a god is more than expecting blessing it is CLINGING.

First commandment: “You shall have no other gods” (we worship God alone by knowing, trusting, and believing)

“A god means that from which we are to expect all good and in which we are to take refuge in all distress.” - Martin Luther

“Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre! He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills. He gives to the beasts their food…” Psalm 147:7-9

“Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:16-17

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

“To ‘have’ God means that the heart takes hold of Him and clings to HIM. To cling to Him with the heart is nothing else than to trust in Him entirely.” Martin Luther – Large Catechism 360.13

“And the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.” 1 Kings 17:24

You are never so successful that you forget where your blessings come from AND you are never so low you forget who to CLING to.
