Passage: Isaiah 9:1-7
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
“He shall be called” “Wonderful Counselor”
Wonderful – PELE – “supernatural” or “miraculous”
“Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?” Exodus 15:11
“You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples.” Psalm 77:14
Counselor = wisdom
Yet the wisdom of our God is not just advice or better questions…it comes to us in the flesh.
Advent/Christmas time is a reminder for us that Godly wisdom makes foolish worldly advice.
Complex questions of this world:
1. Can I face death with confidence?
2. Can I live with my dark past?
3. Can I forgive those who have wronged me?
“This also comes from the Lord of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.” Isaiah 28:29
“And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
God’s wonder and wisdom bring light to a dark world.
