Passage: John 6:1-71
“Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” John 6:5
“He asked this only to test Philip, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.” John 6:6
10,000 people x the cost of bread =
5 loaves + 2 fish =
50,000 loaves + 20K fish =
“But how far will they go among so many!” John 6:9
1 (Jesus) + 5 loaves + 2 fish =
Remember the number 1 (Jesus) when it comes to feeding what you are really hungry for!
The God of the Scriptures is a God of abundance and provision.
Jesus meets your needs! Jesus satisfies your hunger! Jesus does that abundantly!
“as much as they wanted!” John 6:11
“I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.” John 6:26
For the bread of God is HE who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. “Sir,” they said, “from now on give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I AM the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry.” John 6:33-35
“At this the Jews began to grumble about Jesus because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.’” John 6:41
I AM - that’s God’s name!
“What matters is not what Jesus can do for you; what matters is who Jesus is. Only if you’re prepared to be confronted by that in a new way can you begin to understand what he can really do for you, what he really wants to do for you.” (N.T. Wright, John for Everyone, p. 79)
Do you know what you are really hungry for? A relationship with Jesus!
1 (Jesus) + 5 loaves + 2 fish = More Than Enough to feed 10,000! No, the real math problem is this Jesus + Nothing = Everything I need!
