Passage: Matthew 1:18-25
Holy waiting takes place when God brings our EXPECTATION and HOPE together.
“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (Mt 1:20)
EXPECTATION: means trusting God to deliver on His promises.
“(Mary) will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (v21)
HOPE: we look forward to God’s promises coming to pass.
The LORD Almighty will (from Isaiah 25)
…prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples…
…destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples…
…swallow up death forever…
…wipe away the tears from all faces…
…remove the disgrace of his people... The LORD has spoken.
Holy Waiting invites us to action.
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. (vv 24-25)
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. Phil 1:20
In that day they will say, "Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us. This is the LORD; we trusted in him; let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation." (Is 25:9)
Series Information

Each year before Christmas, we spend our time in Advent. Advent provides more than just prep time for Christmas. It provides A sacred space where God can do His deepest work of establishing rhythms of attention, repentance, simplicity, and expectation. In our weekend Advent Series "The Art of Waiting," we will explore these rhythms and see that our God who became flesh in Jesus continues to meet us in our most human moments.
