Passage: Heb.
"You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples... you shall be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation" Exodus 19:4-6
Covenant demands exclusive allegiance and makes exclusive promises.
QUESTIONS:
WHERE does your ultimate allegiance actually live?
Where does your heart belong?
Are we letting HIS kingdom's values shape us, or are we baptizing THOSE kingdoms and calling them Christian?
Why True and Better?
1. It's SECURED by Jesus, Not Your Performance
"I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more" (8:12)
2. It's INTERNAL, Not Just External
"I will put my laws in their minds, and write them on their hearts" (8:10)
3. But the CALL Remains: A Single Allegiance
A kingdom of priests: Representing God in every area of life
A holy nation: Set apart, living differently from the surrounding culture
A light to the nations: Showing the watching world what
Jesus' kingdom actually looks like
We are called to live fully in this world, but belong fully to Jesus.
