Thankful for the Church That Was

MESSAGE NOTES –

“By grace you are saved through faith, this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works so no one can boast. We are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works!” Ephesians 2:8-10

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household.” Ephesians 2:19

3 Critical Components of God’s Building

1. Cornerstone –Jesus. - “Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” Ephesians 2:20
2. Foundation – Apostles and prophets - “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets” Ephesians 2:20
3. Other stones – All believers of all time in all places, that’s us. - “In Christ the whole building is joined together.” Ephesians 2:21

 The church that was is still the church that is. Those believers in heaven today are as much a part of the church today as we are.

The church militant – all believers on earth fighting against sin, the wickedness in this world, and the devil.
The church triumphant – all believers who are now in heaven waiting for Christ’s return.

It’s still one church.

I believe in the holy “Christian” Church. (catholic - according to the whole or throughout the whole.)

“The whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.” Ephesians 2:21
