Questions Jesus Asks: The Question of Recognition

Passage: Luke 24:13-35
“They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.”  Luke 24:14
 “Jesus was powerful in word and deed.”  Luke 24:19
 “We had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel.”  Luke 24:21  
“But now some of our women have completely confused us.” Luke 24:22
 “But they were not able to recognize who he was.” Luke 24:16 
Jesus asks questions not as tests for us to pass, but as invitations into a deeper relationship with Him. 
 “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”  Luke 24:17 
Be honest and vulnerable with Jesus.  (Text with Jesus App)
“How foolish you are and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!  Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory!”  Luke 24:25-26
Recognize that Jesus speaks truth, sometimes his words are comforting, and other times his words are convicting.
 “their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus.”  Luke 24:31
“How Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.”  Luke 24:35
Open your eyes and recognize Jesus. 
Recognize Jesus as the Crucified and Risen One
Recognize Jesus in the Scriptures.
“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”  Luke 24:27 
 “Were not our hearts burning with us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us.”  Luke 24:32 
Recognize Jesus in the Breaking of Bread, in Holy Communion
