Passage: James 1:19-27
Faith compels us to act on what we believe.
Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21
“It is therefore impossible to separate works from faith as it is to separate heat and light from fire.” Martin Luther “Book of Concord”
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. James 1:23-24
But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:25
“Looks” in Greek: ‘parakoopto’ to stoop and look into
But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened. Luke 24:12
And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. John 20:5
But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. John 20:11
