Passage: Luke 5:27-32
The Son of Man...
- “not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45)
- “seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10)
- “eating and drinking” (Luke 7:34)
“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people.” Acts 2:46-47a
“In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus is either going to a meal, at a meal, or coming from a meal.”- Robert Karris
The Latin phrase “companion” is the word “cumpanis” (cum - together; pannis - bread)
“After this he (Jesus) went out and saw a tax collector named Levi (Matthew), sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him “Follow me.” And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.” Luke 5:27-28
You cannot out sin the gracious invitation of Jesus to His kingdom.
“And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his (Jesus’) disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”” Luke 5:30
“And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”” Luke 5:31-32
“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people.” Acts 2:46-47a
So what shall we do?
- Eat with someone who does not know Jesus.
- Show them Jesus!
