Passage: Mark 11:1-11
What kind of King was Jesus going to be?
And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!" Mark 11:9,10
Everyone had their expectations about what kind of King Jesus was going to be.
The Romans were all about more.
Populum romanum duabus praecipue rebus, annona et spectacula, teneri. Translation: The Roman people are concerned primarily with two things, food and spectacles
"Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!" Mark 11:9
The Israelites were expecting a different kind of King.
"Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." Zechariah 9:9
"…have Solomon my son mount my own mule and take him down to Gihon. There have Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel." 1 Kings 1:33-34
"The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his. He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch…" Genesis 49:10-11
What kind of king was this going to be?
Jesus brings a kingdom NOW and FOREVER!

Jesus brings a kingdom for YOU and for the WORLD.
The King becomes broken for you.
