Sermon Notes: Matthew 2:1-12

“Joy to the World” - “He comes to make His blessings flow; far as the curse is found.”


Jesus is a new king, for all people, in an unexpected way.

 

1Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? … 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; … Matthew 2:1-3


Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. Matthew 2:7


Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. Matthew 2:16


When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. Matthew 2:10


And going into the house, they saw the Child with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Matthew 2:11


Jesus is a new king, for all people, in an unexpected way.


But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Acts 13:8


Behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem Matthew 2:1


And she gave birth to her firstborn Son and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:7


When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” Matthew 27:54
