Passage: John 20:1-18

Sermon Notes: John 20:1-18

Easter Traditions

“Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. John 20:1
“Saw” in Greek: “Blep-o”….to glance or notice 

 And (John) stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.” John 20:5
“Saw in Greek: “Blep-o”….to glance or notice 

Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there.” John 20:6
“Saw” in Greek:
theh-o-reh´-o” … to look carefully or observe.

”Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed” John 20:8
“Saw” in Greek: I -don” … to perceive with intelligence or comprehend.

The risen Jesus does not want to be your tradition but your Lord.

And she (Mary) saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. “John 20:12
“Saw” in Greek: “theh-o-reh-o….she carefully observes

“Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that He had said these things to her.” John 20:18
“Saw” in Greek: I -don” … to perceive with intelligence or comprehend.

Easter should transform us.

The risen Jesus doesn’t want to be your tradition but your Lord. He transforms your life.

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
