In addition to regular tithes and offerings, there are several other ways you can make a lasting impact through wise financial stewardship:
Gifts from Investments: You can give directly from your investment accounts—such as stocks, mutual funds, or other appreciated assets. Donating appreciated securities can provide potential tax advantages by avoiding capital gains taxes while supporting the church’s ministry. IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you are age 70½ or older, you can give directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the church through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). This type of gift may count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) and can be excluded from your taxable income. QCDs are a simple and tax-efficient way to invest in God’s Kingdom. Consult with your financial advisor, or we can refer you to Teresa Nelson, an LCMS gift planning counselor with LCMS Foundation, at (319) 351-6529 to help you get started.
Legacy and Estate Giving: Consider leaving a legacy that continues your faith and generosity for generations to come. Including the church in your estate plans—through a will, trust, beneficiary designation, or other planned gift—ensures that your resources continue to further the mission of Christ long into the future. In addition, the Webster Gardens Endowment funds a gift planning program called “Transfer the Blessings” to provide free resources to help congregants work through the details involved in estate planning.
