Grow Deep—It’s Not What You Think Edition

"Arise, shine, for your Light has come! ... God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty.”  - Isaiah 60:1, 1 Corinthians 1:27

Have you ever had any of these things happen to you?

  • You receive a text message and you read something into the message that you later learn the writer did not intend … or the message made no sense because of autocorrect … or you missed an important word that made all the difference?
  • Had an icon appear on the dashboard of your car. When you finally found the symbol in the owner’s manual, it wasn’t at all what you thought it was?
  • Leaned over at a red light to pick up something you dropped on the floor of the car and accidentally hit the horn in the process just as the light turned green? The driver in front of you responds to your horn honking with angry words and/or angry gestures? I have! Though I have seldom had the opportunity, I really wanted to say: “It’s not what you think! It was an accident! I’m sorry!”

As we enter into this season of Epiphany and journey on to the Transfiguration in preparation for the start of Lent and on to the Cross, we will discover that there are things in Scripture that may not be exactly what we thought they were …. maybe we missed something when we read Scripture in the past. Maybe our understanding of Scripture has been shaped by our culture or strongly influenced by another believer. Or maybe we just did not understand what we read at all.

As we look more closely at the appointed Scriptures for each day of this series through the lens of Baptism, Christianity, Worship, the Church, and more, we will be looking for the truth … the life-changing truth of Jesus!

Join us in this journey as together we grow deep with Jesus!
