Make Songs of Joy

For some time now I have been provoked by 1 Chronicles 15:16.  It reads:

16 David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their fellow Levites as musicians to make a joyful sound with musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.

The Levites were the Hebrew tribe responsible for ministering directly to the Lord.  They were, essentially, the church workers of their time.  And clearly, as this verse shows, they were also the musicians - the praise and worship leaders - the Chris Tomlins and David Crowders - of ancient Israel. And David, as you are likely aware, was their king.  (If you look at his history you'll see that he was an excellent musician himself.)  Yet what really stirs me about this verse is David's instruction to the Levites to "make a joyful sound".  Another translation says "make songs of joy".  JOY!  It struck me that this is the only sound prescribed - perhaps even commanded - by David for the Levites to play and sing to the Lord, the God of all creation, the Name above all names.  Joy.  I'll be writing more about this in the future.  For now, I invite you to pray and think about His joy...
