Grow Deep - Spiritual Conversations Edition - Week 3

Week 3: February 16-22

You’re Ready Already!

“Memory Verse: “In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; but do it with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15 ESV

When it comes to holding spiritual conversations, “You’re ready already!” You may be tempted to think that is not true… that you have to be a “spiritual expert” to be “ready” or to be effective. You think about the potential questions that you might be asked and then lament how little you know of the Bible. You wonder how you would answer difficult questions. Truth be told, you may fear that you will not be able to answer why you believe what you believe. You may fear having to answer some of the “hard” questions about our God.

The fact is, however, that simply being a Christian means you already have what you need for spiritual conversations. God has put His Spirit in you and in me. So God is with each of us in every conversation! That cannot be overstated. You believe in Jesus and what He has done for you, so you already have a faith story. That is powerful! Every Christian already has formidable weapons for conversation on his or her side!

Remember, when you speak with others about Jesus and share the Gospel, you are simply sharing “good news” with them. Who doesn’t want to hear good news? You may be just getting to know a person, and you want to share good news with them. Yes, a bit of preparedness helps, but you are already ready. Don’t forget: God is with you, you have your faith story, and you know what Jesus has done for you. Let that preparedness be your confidence!

Sunday, February 16
Read: John 20:21
“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you.” ESV
Reflect: When you have spiritual conversations, Jesus’ peace is with you. How do you envision a peaceful spiritual conversation?

Monday, February 17

Read: Isaiah 6:8
“I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’” ESV
Reflect: You are already prepared for spiritual conversations. To whom is God sending you to have such a conversation this week?

Tuesday, February 18

Read: 1 Peter 3:15
“In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; but do it with gentleness and respect.” ESV
Reflect: What are some gentle words you would include in a spiritual conversation? How do those words speak to the hope that you have in Jesus?

Wednesday, February 19

Read: Colossians 4:6
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” ESV
Reflect: What does a gracious spiritual conversation look like for you? How does that conversation speak to a specific person with whom you want to talk?

Thursday, February 20

Read: Luke 12:11-12
“Do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” ESV
Reflect: God’s Holy Spirit is with you as you enter into spiritual conversations. How does that relieve the anxiety that you may have for such a conversation?

Friday, February 21

Read: 2 Corinthians 5:20
“We are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us.” ESV
Reflect: Consider the honor that God bestows on you when He speaks through you as His ambassador. How does this knowledge impact the way you approach a spiritual conversation?

Saturday, February 22

Read: Romans 10:15 (quoting Isaiah 52:7)
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” ESV
Reflect: God considers His people as beautiful when they speak of Him. In what way would you describe the beauty of God’s grace to another in conversation?
